USEFUL INFORMATION
This debate was raging long before the Personal Computer became popular and it still goes on. Now that we have PC’s and the Internet, one can find several articles on the subject. Some are fact based, some are merely opinions. There are definite differences that will affect the audio. Things like distortion, harmonics, noise and power level, just to name a few. What I’m going to do is present some links that I trust and then you can decide for yourself because good and bad designs exist for both. The short story is that you have to use your own ears. Some of the links are those of manufacturers, suppliers or service companies. Although some of the articles are biased, the links below are arranged in alphabetical order: https://www.theaudioarchive.com/TAA_Resources_Tubes_versus_Solid_State.htm https://www.caryaudio.com/2018/06/04/vacuum-tube-vs-solid-state/ https://www.effectrode.com/knowledge-base/vacuum-tubes-and-transistors- compared/ https://spectrum.ieee.org/the-cool-sound-of-tubes https://us.kef.com/blog/solid- state-vs-vacuum-tube-amps-a-quick-look-at-the- differences https://pnpntransistor.com/vacuum-tube-vs-transistor/ https://blog.thetubestore.com/tube-vs-solid-state-why-do-tubes-sound-better/ Return to TOP of page © Corey Bailey Audio Engineering
